ABOUT TRICHY
Tiruchirappalli situated on the bank of river Cauvery which is the fourth biggest city in Tamil Nadu was originally a Chola citadel. Trichy is the major centre of ancient temples and it lies in the southern part of India with rich cultural heritage. The river Cauvery and Kollidam flows in trichy flourishing the country. It is a city of multi-culture with Tamil, English, Marathi, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam speaking people. It is main engineering hub of India connecting various parts of Tamilnadu. Trichy is an important place for tourism and has a fine blend of temples and monuments including Sri Rangam, Rock Fort, Samayapuram, Thiruvanai Kovil etc.
 
ROCKFORT TEMPLE:
The rock fort temple or the Ucchi Pillayar koil is one of the most important temple in Trichy which is a combination of two hindu temples Lord Ganesh and Lord Shiva, mounted on a rock at an height of 83m. Archeological researches say that this rock is about 3800 millions age with 344 steps to reach the top of the fort. And they also say that the carving found inside the cave seems to be of the 3rd century BC.
 
SRIRANGAM TEMPLE:
Srirangam Temple which is another important temple is 7Km away from trichy. It is surrounded by the river Cauvery in one side and by the river Kollidam on the other side which is fascinating. It is surrounded by 7 huge walls with 21 gopurams of which the Raja Gopuram is the largest. Due to the fame and the grandeur of the temple, Srirangam has a booming economy based on tourism.
 
SAMAYAPURAM MARIAMMAN TEMPLE:
Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is located at a distance of 20 Km from trichy. The goddess worshipped here is Samayapurathal or Mariamman who is believed to be the sister of Lord Shiva. The devotees of this temple believe that the Goddess has enormous power to cure illness.
 
THIRUVANAI KOVIL:
Thiruvanai Kovil is another important temple 2Km away Srirangam .It is also known as Jambukeshwara temple because it is believed that an elephant worshipped Lord Shiva under a Jumbu tree. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in his water seating. The temple reflects the architecture of the Dravidian in its grand beauty and splendor.
 
ERUMBEESHWARAR TEMPLE:
The Erumbeeshwarar Temple is sited at Thiruverumbur between Trichy and Thanjavur. And this temple is dedicated Lord Shiva who favored devas to overcome the Karan.
 
ST JOSEPH’S CHURCH:
St Joseph’s Church is one of the oldest churches in India located at the centre of the Teppakulam in Trichy. The British constructed the church as a base for spreading the message of Christianity.
